At the southern end of Haifa, after the cluster Newe David, is the cemetery of Haifa, called Kfar Samir. To arrive to the cemetery, one has to drive through Newe David on the Hamelekh Shlomo street. The street Hamelekh Shlomo is also the only way to arrive from the cluster Newe David to the southern part of Haifa, where are several sport facilities (tennis center, etc.), the Congress Hall, the Haifa Canyon, Castra Center, Mega, Jumbo, Cosmos, the Hof ha Carmel Railway Station, access to the road to Tirat Carmel, or the road MosheFliemann – Freud, which is leading to Ahuza and on the Mt. Carmel. On that street are passing the bus lines 3, א3, 43, א 44 and 114 too. On the right side of the street are four main entrances to the cemetery: Sde Yehoshua, Brosh, Hadass and Tamar.
After the Tamar entrance, there is a street from which access is provided to the side entrances of the cemetery (no’s. 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11) and to another Muslim cemetery, and in continuation that street leads to the main road to Haifa. The length of that street is of aprox. 300 meters. This street is indicated on (some) maps as being “Mesilat Yesharim”, but on the site there is any street sign indicating the denomination of the street, (probably the Haifa Municipality thought that it was not necessary to put a street sign there as on the both sides of that street there are only graves, and probably therefore that street has not even a postal zip code, as nobody there is receiving any mail). On maps it is indicated also that along to that street is the “Nahal Shiah”. Probably this “Nahal” was generated by nature as a result of the rain water which was streaming down from the mountain towards the sea, - that before Haifa’s dwellings expanded in that direction.
During the winter season, it happens obviously that rain is falling. On the left side of the Hamelekh Shlomo street, is the mountain side of Mt. Carmel, and there is nothing provided to prevent that due to the rain, stones and rocks are falling on the street, which are making even to the buses very difficult to drive and pass there, all the more to the private cars. After 1-2 days, a bulldozer is cleaning away the stones and rocks from the street, to ease the traffic of the vehicles. On that left side of the street, there are no houses with inhabitants, to which the Haifa Municipality could demand that they have to care and to pay for providing a fence to prevent the falling of rocks on the street (as the Municipality did to the inhabitants of the street Esther ha Malkha in Newe David).
When rain is falling, the street “Mesilat Yesharim” is becoming a real river, (Nahal), and the rain which is coming from the mountain side, is bringing a lot of stones and rocks with it, and the stream of the rain water is washing out the earth on the both sides of the street, and even is producing cracks, holes and pits in what was once asphalt pavement there. After the cease of the rain, when the water is flowing away, are remaining behind the stones and rocks on the street and the remains washed out by the rain resembling to dried river bed, ditch like, that could cause severe damage to a car if one wheel slips there. The Haifa Municipality is doing anything to provide a drainage to the rain water, and not even to repair the damaged asphalt pavement on that street of just 300 meters length. Probably the Municipality is considering that those who are laid to rest in the cemetery do not mind the stones, rocks, holes and pits in the pavement of the street, or the water streams causing ditches along it, but there are people who are still coming from time to time to some of the graves, and who have to pass on that street. Anyhow, the street belongs to Haifa and the Municipality should take care of the maintenance of that street too.
